The computer-based training system, known as "Scenario-based Interactive Multi-player Simulation (SIMS)" developed by the Police College, has won another training award. This latest honour is the Silver Award in the "Best Innovation in Learning Technology" category of the "Excellence in Learning Awards" organised by the US based company, Brandon Hall Research.

Chief Inspector (Learning Technologies) Andy Yip of the Police College received the award in San Jose, US.

The Brandon Hall Excellence in Learning Awards are presented annually by Brandon Hall Research, one of the leading research firms in training and development. Now in its 14th year, the Awards programme showcases exceptional work in the use of learning technology. SIMS' winning of the Silver Award in the Brandon Hall Awards contest proves that the Force's learning technology has reached an international standard.

Since its inception in 2006, SIMS has won a total of six local and international awards in the training and information technology fields. SIMS is a learning technology system developed in-house by the Police College. It optimises network and web technology to simulate real-life situations and to facilitate scenario-based training for multiple players at different locations.

SIMS has been used in the Command Courses since November 2006. To maximise returns on development, the Police College will conduct briefings to other training units in the Force to promote wider use of SIMS.
