Twenty promoted officers at ranks of Senior Superintendent to Assistant Commissioner attended a one-and-a-half day seminar at the Police College in November. Hosted by Deputy Commissioner (Management) Tsang Wai-hung, the seminar was part of a Management Development Programme (MDP) organised by the college.

The seminar started with an informative and insightful session conducted by Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Yam Tat-wing on the Force's operational priorities and targets. It was followed by Mr Tsang's session on the strategies to meet the challenges ahead in the management of the Force.

Other speakers included Financial Controller Kitty Cheng who spoke on the best practices of prudent financial management and two professors, Dr Lui Tai-lok from the Department of Sociology, Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Dr John Burns, Chair Professor of Politics and Public Administration, University of Hong Kong, who shared with the audience their knowledge and views on the emerging social conflicts in Hong Kong and their implications to policing strategies and the management issues of the Civil Service.

The day was rounded off with an interactive discussion with Commissioner Tang King-shing on a wide range of current and future issues impacting frontline policing.

The seminar was very well received, and another one will be organised later for new promoted officers at the aforementioned ranks.
