Superintendent George Lee Kiu-ki of the Key Points and Search Division (KPS) attended the Seventh National Conference on Search and Security Screening in Wuhan from November 21 to 23 on the invitation from the Ministry of Public Security.

The Force was one of the four designated presenters at the conference. During his presentation, SP Lee shared his experience of planning search operations and security screening for the 2008 Beijing Olympic & Paralympic Equestrian Events hosted by Hong Kong. He highlighted the importance of conducting thorough and comprehensive searches of venues with large open space, to 150 delegates from various Mainland Public Security Bureaux, including senior officials from the Ministry of Public Security and the General Office of the State Council.

SP Lee pointed out that after the resounding success of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, the standards of search and security screening on the Mainland and in Hong Kong and Macao had reached an international level. He added that the conference provided the Force and the delegates with a great opportunity to exchange and enhance the related techniques.

Finally, SP Lee is confident that the valuable experience gained from the equestrian events would stand the Force in good stead in policing major international conferences and sport events in Hong Kong in the future.
