The Used Clothing Collection Campaign 2008, one of the "Caring the Community" initiatives of the Force and a joint activity with the Salvation Army, has collected record-breaking 75,425 kilogrammes of clothing and used items from 20 collection points, representing a rise of more than 30 per cent over 2007. In appreciation of the support of Formation units, staff associations, resident groups, police clubs and management companies, a Handover cum Recognition Ceremony was held at PHQ on February 17, with Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Tang Kam-moon and the Commanding Officer of the Salvation Army, Lieut-Colonel Merv Rowland, officiating. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Tang acknowledged, with great appreciation, the efforts of Force members, their families and all other staff members involved in the collection campaign. He noted that the financial tsunami had not dampened the enthusiasm of officers and their families for charity. Mr Tang stressed that the Force's commitment to the collection campaign and its caring culture would continue to show love and care to the needy. Expressing his gratitude to the Force and Force members, Lieut-Colonel Rowland presented souvenirs to representatives of the participating units for their contributions to the Salvation Army's fund-raising efforts. Now that the yearlong Used Clothing Collection Campaign for 2009 has started, Force members are welcome to send their used items to the collection points located at Police Headquarters, New Territories South Regional Headquarters, Police Officers' Club, Police Sports and Recreation Club, Police Married Quarters at Old Bailey Street, Tsing Yi, Sheung Shui, Yuen Long and Police College as well as the Disciplined Services Quarters at Ko Cheung Court, Kwai Fuk Court, Kwai Yung Court, Lai King, West Kowloon, Wong Tai Sin and Yau Mei Court. Enquiries on the collection points could be made with Sylvia Kwok, FWO WS 2, at 2860-6290.
