Kowloon East Regional Commander (RC KE) Blaine Hoggard took the salute at the Annual Review of the Kowloon East Road Safety Patrol at the Hong Ning Road Playground on February 15. At the parade, Mr Hoggard inspected 28 Road Safety Patrol teams from schools across the Kowloon East Region.

Addressing the parade, Mr Hoggard emphasised that Traffic Kowloon East, in line with the Commissioner's priorities, is adopting a multi-agency approach to reduce traffic accidents in the Region. Kowloon East Road Safety Patrol has all along been a major partner.

Noting that efforts so far had been successful, Mr Hoggard said the number of accidents involving injuries in his Region fell by 11 per cent in 2008, compared with 2007. "It's also encouraging that traffic accidents involving pedestrians in Kowloon East in 2008 dropped significantly by 19.6 per cent to 470 cases from 585 cases in 2007," he added.

Mr Hoggard also emphasised that the active participation in and promotion of road safety activities by the Kowloon East Road Safety Patrol had positively impacted on the accident trend. He expressed his sincere thanks to members of road safety patrols for actively participating in Traffic Kowloon East's "Road Safety Street Education" to disseminate road safety messages in their free time.

In recognition of their contributions to promotion of road safety, Mr Hoggard presented medals and certificates to Senior Superintendent Stephen Verralls from Traffic Kowloon East, members of the Traffic Kowloon East Road Safety Team and 19 members of the Kowloon East Road Safety Patrol.

The Regional Commander Kowloon East of the Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol, Mr Simon Wong, also attended the Annual Review.
