With quality manpower as its most precious resource, the Hong Kong Police College would continue to pursue excellence to train up qualified police officers with zeal and commitment for the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong.

The Secretary for Security, Mr Ambrose S K Lee, said this on March 21 when inspecting a passing-out parade of the Police College.

"In the past 60 years, the Hong Kong Police College and its predecessor the Police Training School have borne the mission and responsibility of training up qualified Police officers for Hong Kong. All officers have a special attachment to this establishment and it is also a great pleasure for me to join you here for the passing-out parade and the celebration of the 60th Anniversary of Police training in Wong Chuk Hang."

Mr Lee pointed out that due to the ever-changing society, the Force had to meet increasing challenges in policing. To cope with developments and fulfil the increasing expectations from the public, Police training had always kept abreast of changes and would cater to every eventuality.

"Continuous improvement has been made to the training facilities while the content of training has also been made all round and comprehensive so officers will be more effective and professional in their approach," he said.

The Recruit Police Constables' foundation training programme had already been accredited by the Open University of Hong Kong. Through partnerships with Mainland and overseas police training institutes, the Police College provided an interface to broaden the horizons of trainees.

Apart from instilling knowledge and skills related to Police work, the Police College also emphasised inculcation of psychological competencies and Police values, so that officers would live and be led by the Force's values.

Mr Lee hoped that the graduates would live and apply the motto of "Serving with Pride and Care" as well as what they had learnt in the Police College in all their dealings, and that they would work hand in hand to maintain the Hong Kong Police as an internationally outstanding Police Service which had won the support and trust of the community.

On parade were a total of 32 probationary inspectors and 199 recruit constables.

College celebrates 60th Anniversary of Police training To celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Police training on the Wong Chuk Hang campus, an anniversary exhibition corner was set up in the Police College to showcase the development of Police training. The training contents, facilities and equipment of several divisions were displayed at the corner, including Recruitment Division, E-learning, Physical Training and First Aid Section, Weapons Training Division, Detective Division and Police Band. Staff from the Recruitment Division were also present to handle enquiries about recruitment-related matters and register applicants on site. The latest police vehicles, including the newly commissioned armoured personnel carriers, were also on display.
