Marine law enforcement agencies renew ties

The marine law enforcement agencies of Hong Kong, Macao and Guangdong maintain regular liaison at a working level. To enhance communication, work efficiency and good relations, Marine Region held the "Hong Kong/Macao/Guangdong Maritime Law Enforcement Agency Annual Gathering cum Luncheon 2009" at the Police Officers' Club on February 20.

Attending the function were about 100 guests from the Customs and Excise Department, Marine Department, and Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department in Hong Kong, as well as Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in HKSAR, Border Control General Division of Guangdong Public Security Department, Administration of Ocean and Fisheries of Guangdong Province, Guangdong Customs and Excise Department, Office for Combating Smuggling of the People's Government of Guangdong Province, and Macao SAR Customs and Excise Department.

Giving a welcoming speech as guest of honour, Director of Operations Koo Sii-hong thanked the maritime law enforcement agencies of Hong Kong, Macao and Guangdong for their contributions to maintenance of law and order in Hong Kong, combat cross-boundary crimes, illegal immigration, smuggling and illegal cross-boundary fishing activities. He also highlighted the contribution of the superb maritime security work to the success of the Hong Kong Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events.

In conclusion, Mr Koo pledged that the Force would continue to work closely with the law enforcement agencies of Guangdong and Macao to strive for excellence and to face up to challenges throughout 2009.
