The Hong Kong Police Cycling Club continues with its relentless preparations for the World Police and Fire Games in British Columbia, Canada, with a full schedule of events, including local competitions. On March 1, the men's mountain bike team took part in the Hong Kong Mountain Bike Series 7 over a demanding cross-country course. Hosted by the Hong Kong Cycling Association, the event attracted riders from Hong Kong and overseas. In a storming performance after nearly two hours in the saddle, Sergeant Eric Sin Chun-kwong from Police Tactical Unit Headquarters took second place in the men's 30 plus age group, only being beaten by a semi-professional international rider. Not to be out done by competitors, Sergeant Philip Chan Chik-fai from New Territories North Regional Headquarters took third place in the 40 plus age group, with Station Sergeant Ronald Lam Wai-keung from Ma On Shan Division following him home in a commendable fifth position. Unfortunately, Inspector Aaron Fong Yuk-leung crashed out early in the race, taking a hard fall. Luckily he had only minor bruises and is expected to be fit for British Columbia in July. Cycling Club Chairman Steve Wordsworth commented: "Riding in competitions is vital to our preparation as the events in Canada will be hard fought." The World Police & Fire Games takes place between July 31 and August 9 this year, with a strong team from the Force expected to participate.
