Ladies football team makes triumphant debut

Formed in 2007 and after yearlong training, the Police Ladies Football Team made a triumphant debut in a four-team competition on the campus of the Hong Kong International School on February 28.

Led by Manager, Acting Chief Inspector Lee Wing-keung, and coach Sergeant Ng Cheuk-wah, the Force team first had an easy 1-0 win over the Hong Kong Football Club. After this warm-up match, the Force ladies beat the Hong Kong Jockey Club Sport and Art College 2-0.

The Force ladies were never seriously challenged until coming face to face with the host team in the final match. With the Hong Kong International School girls having an average height of five feet nine, it was not difficult to expect a tough battle for the Force ladies. Nevertheless, they were not a single bit intimated by the their opponents' stature, and showed how to play football with skills and determination.

Losing an early goal, the Force ladies scored an equaliser in the first half, and sealed a 2-1 victory when team captain Ip Kwok-kan lobbed a beautiful goal into the net from 20 yards away in the last four seconds of the second half.

Hopefully, the Force team's first taste of victory would not only boost team members' confidence, but also draw Force-wide support for Force lady footabllers.

The Force's lady footballers have pulled off their first three wins following one year's strenuous training
