||
Assistant Commissioner (Operations) Suen Kwai-leung presented on April 24 a letter of appointment to Woman Superintendent (WSP) (Crime Support) Gloria Yu as the new TANGO Company Commander, taking over from WSP Jenny Lau who has completed a very successful four-and-a-half-year tour as Company Second-In-Charge and Company Commander. Mr Suen expressed his appreciation of WSP Yu's acceptance of this challenging secondary duty. From time to time, a number of major events in Hong Kong would require the professional support of TANGO Company. With WSP Yu's well developed operational experience and command skills, Mr Suen expressed his great confidence in her competency to command TANGO and contribute to the success of the coming major events, as WSP Lau has well accomplished whilst in post. WSP Yu is looking forward to the challenges ahead. Whilst all TANGO members are performing a secondary duty, their professionalism has been widely recognised and appreciated. Mr Suen took the opportunity to express his sincere thanks to all TANGO members for their commitment and congratulated the outgoing TANGO Commander, WSP Lau, Woman Senior Inspector Ng Ching-no, Woman Police Constables Chen Yuet-yu and Chan Wing-yee on the award of the Commanding Officer's Commendation for their outstanding performances displayed in TANGO. At the Public Order and Crime Prevention Programme Management Committee meeting held in December last year, the senior management of the Force reviewed and heartily acknowledged the significant contribution of TANGO and the Chairman, Director of Operations, specifically directed that TANGO should be more prudently deployed in line with its core spirit and the laid down principles, including dedicated female officers' support to handle female or juvenile crowds. The authority to mobilise a TANGO Platoon within the parent Region would be strictly controlled by its Regional HQs while the authority to mobilise TANGO Platoons across Regions would likewise be authorised by Assistant Commissioner (Operations). In recognition of the valuable contributions by TANGO, two TANGO officers will be nominated to attend an overseas conference in the US later this year. Mr Suen also paid tribute to WSP Lau's effective command of TANGO under many trying circumstances.
