The Rotary Club of Golden Mile has complimented Yau Tsim District (YTDIST) for its long-term commitment to engaging the community. On March 31, the club presented a Serving-the-Community award to four officers of the District, Woman Senior Inspector Cheng Yi-mui, Sergeant Au Kwong-yiu, Police Constables Tang Wai-hung and Cheung Kam-chuen for their excellent service and significant contribution to the community. Under YTDIST's Interactive Engagement Programme with Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC), the officers have all along been making great efforts in serving the ethnic community. SGT Au, from the Yau Tsim Police Community Relations Office, has assisted in setting up two outreach teams in partnership with Home Affairs Department, Social Welfare Department as well as non-governmental organisations to serve the NEC living in Yau Ma Tei and those visiting the Chung King Mansions and Mirador Mansion in Tsim Sha Tsui. Together with PC Cheung, SGT Au has been actively recruiting NEC youths as JPC members. PC Cheung also helped NEC integrate into society as a leading member of a working group on Nepalese residents, and during outreaching social work he had assisted an alcoholic and jobless Nepalese man in seeking rehabilitation services. PC Tang, from Tsim Sha Tsui Division, ably discharged the responsibility of liaising with residents and shopkeepers in policing the Chung King Mansions and Mirador Mansion, including dealing with the problems of prostitution, touting and sales of counterfeit and infringement goods. WSIP Cheng organised anti-drug activities for NEC youths and arranged visits to police stations for them to forge relations with the police. Mr So Kam-leung, Under-secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Kowloon West Regional Commander Tang How-kong, and YTDIST Commander Paul Lau were present at the award presentation.
