Phase II of the Kick Boxing Programme began on April 3 with an opening ceremony held at the Butterfly Beach Sports Centre. This project is jointly organised by Operation Breakthrough, Tuen Mun Police District and Tuen Mun division of the Hong Kong Federation of Youth.

Under the project, girls at risk aged between 13 and 16 receive coaching in Kick Boxing by officers from Tuen Mun Police District, as well as training in discipline and counselling by professional social workers to help the girls boost their confidence and build up life values.

The eight classes in phase I of the Kick Boxing Programme were completed between December last year and February this year. After eight weeks of training, the girls attained a satisfactory level of performance and their behaviours also improved, much to the delight of their parents. During phase II, 10 girls will receive 10 weeks' coaching.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Tuen Mun District Deputy Commander David Grant, who initiated the project, encouraged the participants to avail themselves of this good opportunity to set their life goals. He also thanked police volunteers for sparing their free time to help a worthy project.

Mr Grant later presented certificates to the participants and appointment letters to newly appointed police volunteers for the project.
