Showdown in Shanghai

An electrified crowd of over 540 excited fans yelled their heads off as blood pumped and the punches flew at Shanghai's second Boxing Smoker evening - traditionally a black tie dinner and drinks reception - held at the prestigious Sheraton Pudong Hotel on Saturday, June 13.

The evening, organised by former Superintendent Danny Lawley, was a huge success, bringing in over RMB 215,000 for a local charity. The event could not have taken place however without the expert help of Senior Inspector Yuen Tai-man, Senior Inspector Ng Yat-fan and Inspector Ng Chit-bun, all of whom gave generously of their own time to fly up to Shanghai to referee and judge the matches.

The standard of boxing on the night was high, but the importance of professional and neutral judges is paramount. It was pleasing to see the involvement of the Hong Kong Police Operation Breakthrough staff in putting together such an enjoyable and meaningful night on the Mainland!
