NEC youths attend tailor-made career talk |

In a bid to enhance communication with the Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) youths and arouse their interest in joining the Force, Recruitment Division, Police Public Relations Branch, and Police Community Relations Office of Wan Chai District jointly invited members of the Hong Kong Community Development Network Ethnic Minorities Youth League to attend a passing-out parade at the Police College last month. Immediately after the parade, the NEC guests were also invited to attend a Police Career Talk at the college. The talk was rich in contents, introducing, among other things, entry requirements, selection processes and the pre-requisite attributes required of recruits. Wan Chai Deputy District Commander Au Yeung Chiu-kong and Recruitment Division Superintendent Kwok Pak-chung were on hand to listen to the young guests' enquiries and provide detailed answers. As some non-Chinese speaking people might find the Chinese language difficult to master, Recruitment Division invited newly graduated Inspector Henry Shing from Yuen Long Division Patrol Sub-unit to share his experiences of learning Chinese. Growing up in Australia and unable to read and write Chinese before joining the Force, Inspector Shing told his audience how he had undergone intensive training for two years before eventually passing Chinese written examinations. Inspector Shing hoped his experiences would serve as an inspiration for NEC youths aspiring to join the Force. Impressed with officers' smart turnout at the passing-out parade, some NEC youths indicated they would try to master Chinese in order to join the Force to serve the community.
