At a "Frontline Police Work Open Forum" recently held by Central District (CDIST), Junior Police Officers briefed some 30 members of the Central and Western District Council and District Fight Crime Committee, as well as Area Committees members on their daily work.

The officers explained the procedures and difficulties they came across whilst dealing with domestic violence cases and "quick money" cases, as well as carrying out street search operations and search on persons in police custody. They also answered questions from the floor, giving the audience a better understanding of frontline officers' daily law enforcement jobs, and clearing up doubts and misunderstandings the audience might have.

The audience's feedback about the open forum was favourable. Mr Chan Chit-kwai, Vice-chairman of the Central and Western District Council, thanked Central District Commander Chiu Wai-yin for making elaborate arrangements for his members to talk to frontline officers face to face about their jobs.

Mr Chan Tak-chor, Chairman of the Central and Western District Council, said the forum gave a clearer picture of the factors frontline officers considered before making decisions and the difficulties they confronted whilst carrying out their duties. He also noted that the Police had made improvements in respect of operations and the working environment for officers.

Ms Au Yim-lung, Chairperson of the Central and Western Fight Crime Committee, pointed out that getting first-hand information from frontline officers would help to analyse a real situation and to clear up doubts. Noting that the forum would further understanding between the Police and the community, she hoped that more similar functions would be organised in the future.
