Force boxers gear up for WPFG |

A few hours after No 9 typhoon signal was lowered on Sunday, July 19, a hardy group of Force and Operation Breakthrough boxers were seen catching the hydrofoil to Macao to take part in a boxing tournament. Led by their Chairman, Superintendent Barry Smith, the group of 16 found the sea condition still rough enough to regret the earlier bowl of congee and the sick bags were suddenly in short supply. However once back on dry land and with the promise of some hard bouts ahead, the group soon resumed normal and began their warm up at the Fighting Arts of Macao Gymnasium. Almost 20 bouts had been scheduled with fighters from Macao and a number of boxing gyms in Hong Kong. It was a great opportunity to allow some of the newer members the chance to climb between the ropes for the first time as well as give the more seasoned boxers a last chance to hone their skills before the upcoming World Police and Fire Games (WPFG). On July 29 the police boxers headed for Vancouver for the WPFG, which will cap a year of hard training and preparation. The Deputy Chairman, Inspector Ng Chit-bun, said: "Although it is early I feel we definitely have a chance to pick up some medals. Our boxers are extremely fit and trained very hard for this event."
