In support of the East Asian Games 2009, the tournament was organised as one of the promotion events for the Games. Every player received a souvenir on the first day of the tournament.

As host of the tournament this year, the Force faced a strong competition from the other five disciplined forces, namely Fire Services Department, Customs and Excise Department, Correctional Services Department, Immigration Department and ICAC. After weeks of competition, Senior Superintendent Chau Cho-kei led the police team to claim the final victory, and receive the trophy from Assistant Commissioner (Operations) Wong Chi-hung at the Police Officers' Club on September 18.

In individual matches, Senior Superintendent Percy Fung and Superintendent Wong Koon-ho won the senior officers' doubles.
