The first Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macao Civil Servant Sports Exchange was held in Guangzhou on October 10. This is the first time the Guangzhou Municipal Government has hosted this sport event and invited civil servants from Hong Kong and Macao to compete in badminton, basketball, table tennis and tennis.

Being the winners of the sports in this year's Corporate Games, the Force and Leisure and Cultural Services Department were selected to represent Hong Kong civil servants in the event.

Senior Superintendent Stanley Chung Siu-yeung led a 40-member Hong Kong delegation while Mr Jose Chu, Director of Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau, headed the Macao delegation. A total of about 160 government officers, athletes, coaches and working staff from the three places participated in the event, manifesting a warm feeling of friendship. After an intense and exciting competition, Hong Kong athletes ranked as the overall 1st runner-up and captured the championship of badminton.

At the closing ceremony, Mr Guo Xiling, Vice-President of the Chinese Peoples' Political Consultative Conference, Guangzhou, gave a brief update on preparation for the 16th Asian Games to be held in Guangzhou in late 2010, and stressed that the success of the Games would definitely require the support from both Hong Kong and Macao. He also hoped that the event would further the friendship and ties amongst the three cities.
