The Force held the annual Hong Kong Police Remembrance Day Ceremony at the Ceremonial Area of Police Headquarters on November 6 to honour those officers, both Regular and Auxiliary, who gave their lives in the line of duty.
Attending the ceremony were Commissioner Tang King-shing, Senior Directorate Group members, officers at Assistant Commissioner rank and auxiliary and civilian equivalents, as well as representatives from all Major Police and Auxiliary Police Formations.

In his speech, Mr Tang said the ceremony was also a fitting tribute to the dedication and fortitude of all the members of staff who served the Force over the past 160 years. "Today, we honour the memory of those who, whilst performing their sworn duty, have made the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives in the service of the people of Hong Kong. Time and time again we police officers confront danger and continually face the uncertainty of whether our duty to protect and serve will place us in harm's way. We however do not flinch from this challenge to ensure our community can live in a safe and stable society. "In the past year we have tragically lost Station Sergeant Chan Ka-wai, who died in the execution of his duty. Mr Chan's sacrifice reflects the dangers faced daily by all police officers and his selfless dedication to duty is an example to us all," said Mr Tang. Mr Tang went on to say that the Force was particularly honoured by the presence at the ceremony of members of the Hong Kong Police Old Comrades Association, the Royal Hong Kong Police Association and other former members of the Force. "Like the many officers who came before them, they represent the finest traditions of service to the community for which the Force is both famed and justifiably proud. Traditions which our younger generation of officers must take forward into the future," he added. After the Commissioner's speech, the Police bugler sounded the "Last Post" to signal a two-minute silence, after which Mr Tang laid the Force wreath, followed by the Auxiliary Police Commandant with the Auxiliary Force wreath.
