Central District (CDIST) and the Central and Western District Road Safety Campaign Committee recently brought the "If you drink, don't drive" message to visitors to the tourist and leisure spot Lan Kwai Fong in Central. This road safety promotion was prompted by the 32 per cent drop in drink driving cases following enactment of the Road Traffic Legislation (Amendment) Ordinance 2008 in February this year.

On this special Road Safety Day, television artistes Lai Lok-yee and Lee Si-yan lent a hand to the Police in disseminating road safety message as "Road Safety Stars". In addition to a brilliant show, a screening breath test kiosk was set up to conduct breath tests on visitors to Lan Kwai Fong.

Following the opening ceremony of the promotion, CDIST Commander Chiu Wai-yin, Traffic Hong Kong Island Senior Superintendent Wise Choy, Chairman of the Central and Western District Road Safety Campaign Committee, Mr Thomas Ng, and members of the committee handed out publicity items to the public at Lan Kwai Fong.

At the end of the event, Chairman of the Central and Western District Council, Mr Chan Tak-chor, pledged to continue supporting the Police in enhancing public awareness of road safety.
