Superintendent (SP) Man Tat-shing of Organised Crime and Triad Bureau (OCTB) attended in London in September the first attachment programme Crime Wing worked out with the UK Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA). An intelligence-led organisation, the SOCA's mission is to reduce the harm caused to the UK by organised crime.

The four-week attachment comprised two modules. Module I was a one-week familiarisation programme for Force officers to gain a general overview of the structure and work of SOCA, while Module II was a three-week thematic attachment programme in which SP Man was attached to two SOCA specialised units, Firearms and Tactical Department and Anti-kidnap and Extortion Unit.

Speaking of his attachment, SP Man said: "The arrangements there were fantastic! I had the opportunity to take part in some demanding and tough SOCA training programmes. Besides on attachment to SOCA Headquarters in London, I also had the opportunity to study the daily work of other SOCA bases in Northampton, Leicester, Dorset and Kent."

SP Man thanked the Force for giving him an opportunity to study the work of one of the world's most renowned police agencies. "SOCA has applied fresh thinking and new approaches to tackle complex organised crime. My attachment was very stimulating and insightful. Apart from projecting the Force's positive image, I also took this opportunity to forge networking with the crime busters in the UK. This networking will enable me to contribute to the fight against transnational crime."
