Kowloon West (KW) Region launched early this year the Best District Investigation Team (DIT)/Divisional Investigation Team (DVIT) Award Scheme to recognise the hard work of frontline investigative units, and to provide an incentive for individual officers and investigation teams to strive for excellence in their daily jobs.

The award scheme is one of the initiatives recommended by KW's DIT/DVIT Rejuvenation Advisory Committee chaired by Mong Kok District (MKDIST) Commander.

Formations in KW nominated a total of 34 teams for the award scheme. After reviewing the qualities of the short-listed teams and conducting interviews, a panel chaired by the then KW Deputy Regional Commander Lo Wai-chung picked MKDIST's DIT 3 as winner of the Best DIT Award of KW Region. The panel's selection criteria were detective skills, team performance in terms of workload and service quality, which included feedback from the public, performance in intelligence gathering, and the quality of the case files submitted.

At a ceremony at the Police Sports and Recreation Club, KW Regional Commander Tang How-kong presented certificates to members of DIT 3 MKDIST and three short-listed teams - DIT 2 of Kowloon City District, DVIT 5 of Sham Shui Po Division, and DVIT 5 of Yau Ma Tei Division, marking the successful conclusion of KW's inaugural Best DIT/DVIT Award.

Congratulating the winning team as well as the short-listed teams on their job performances, Mr Tang reminded his crime busters to maintain their professionalism so as to better meet rising public expectations.

Commenting on the achievement of his team, Detective Inspector Leung Yue-tung, Officer-in-charge of DIT 3, said: "Both my team members and I feel very honoured to have won this award, which is a recognition of our teamwork. Although taking up 19 new cases in one shift and working continuously for 20 hours are tough jobs, DIT or DVIT offers officers an opportunity to share experiences and develop their careers. In a place such as Mong Kok, you can rest assured that there is never a dull moment."

Detective Sergeant Chan Chi-wai listed devotion, enthusiasm and solidarity as "key attributes" for his team's success. "Maintaining a high standard in one of the busiest districts is undeniably a tough job but it offers a great sense of achievement," he noted.

Detective Police Constable Luk Chi-sing pointed out that for a team taking up 19 new cases in one shift and handling two bomb-related cases in a year are unforgettable memories for every member. "Our persevering efforts have been rewarded by the recognition and the sense of accomplishment the award has given us," he said.

A junior officer, with less than three years of service on loan to DIT 3, Woman Police Constable Choi Siu-wah enjoys working in her team and sees investigation work both challenging and interesting.
