"Catwalk modelling looks so easy on television, but when you're on the stage, it's so different - very nerve wracking!" said one of the young contestants in the competition.

On October 17, 40 students from primary schools in Tai Po District sampled the experience of modelling their own designed T-shirts on stage. International model Qi Qi was one of the judges. She told the young models: "It's never easy on stage with hundreds of pairs of eyes focussing on you. It needs a lot of self-confidence, courage and enthusiasm." She was impressed with their high standard of design and courage to perform in front of their parents and teachers.

The competition was one of the programmes under Project GEN-Y launched by Tai Po District. The 100 primary school students taking part have pledged to remain responsible citizens and stay away from drugs and crime. Officiating guests at the competition included Mr Chu King-yuen, Chairman of Tai Po Primary School Headmasters' Association; Mr Hung Wai-shing, Chairman of North District Primary School Headmasters' Association; Dr Ching Ling-chuen, winner of the 2009 Charitable Chinese Award, and six members of both the Tai Po and North District Fight Crime Committees.

Tai Po District Commander Charles Mitchell said he was impressed with the students' performance on the stage as well as their imaginative designs.

The students also made their parents and teachers feel proud of their achievement. Mrs Yeung, mother of one of the winners, Primary 6 student Yeung Tin-hung, said: "I've never expected my son would win, but he has made me feel so proud of him. Project GEN-Y has given him a chance to develop. I will definitely encourage him to join the project's other activities."
