Recruitment Division (RECDIV) kicked off recruitment for the Police Mentorship Programme (PMP) and the Auxiliary Undergraduate Scheme (AUS) 2010-11 last month.

Since its inception in 2004, a total of 592 university undergraduates have joined PMP, which is a proactive recruitment strategy to inspire university students of high calibre to join the Force as an inspector after graduation.

AUS was first implemented in 2003 with a view to enhancing the image of regular and auxiliary services and providing a chance for suitable undergraduates to become Auxiliary Police Constables.

To help students get a better idea of these two schemes, Woman Senior Inspector (WSIP) Veronica Lee of RECDIV conducted briefing sessions at 10 universities with the assistance of Student Affairs Officers between November 2 and 6. She highlighted the selection criteria and processes of both programmes. The universities are University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lingnan University, Hong Kong Shue Yan University, Open University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Institute of Education.

During her presentation, WSIP Lee outlined the content of PMP, and pointed out that mentees would be given valuable opportunities to obtain advice from their mentors on police knowledge and work. They would also have a chance to work at various police formations under a Job Attachment Programme in summer next year.

The candidates who have passed selection under AUS will undergo Auxiliary Police Basic Training between June and August next year at Auxiliary Police Headquarters.

With the assistance of Student Affairs Officers and the support of students, several hundred candidates were short-listed for final interview for PMP and AUS. The final interview for PMP will be conducted by the mentors on campuses later this month while AUS selection will be conducted at Auxiliary Police Headquarters in January next year.

The students' overwhelming response has greatly encouraged RECDIV, which is confident of being successful in recruiting a new generation of officers with high calibre to take part in police work, laying a solid foundation for them to join the Force in future.

Recruitment Division has been greatly encouraged by undergraduates' response to its briefing sessions on the PMP and AUS
