During Christmas and New Year holidays, more than 2,700 youngsters and Junior Police Call (JPC) members participated in another round of activities under the "JPC Anti-drug Day" campaign to strengthen anti-drug publicity throughout Hong Kong.

At a pledging ceremony, about 200 JPC members from Yuen Long, including 20 non-ethnic Chinese youngsters, made a commitment to cherish life and stay away from drugs. They then distributed homemade cookies to students in the district, with anti-drug slogans in Chinese, English, Nepalese and Pakistani printed on the packing.

Participating in an Anti-Drug Day Kill 'K' Athletics Competition, JPC members from Sham Shui Po helped promote healthy living among their peers, while JPC members from Lantau Island staged the "I Would Say No To Drugs" campaign in their schools. At the same time, other JPC members visited the Drug InfoCentre and the Christian New Life Association's "New Life Garden" Gospel Treatment and Counselling Centre, took part in seminars and training camps, and distributed leaflets.

On the evening of December 18, police officers from Border District distributed anti-drug leaflets to passengers at Lo Wu Boundary Control Point to combat cross-boundary drug abuse, joined by the Under Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok; Action Committee Against Narcotics Chairman, Professor Daniel Shek; officers from Customs and Excise and Immigration Departments; JPC members and artistes.

Youngsters are reminded not to engage in any illegal activities and say 'No' to drugs. The Force will continue organising community and education programmes with schools and other organisations to enhance their awareness of the consequences of drug abuse and to encourage them to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Launched in December 2008 and funded by the Beat Drugs Fund, the two-year "JPC Anti-drug Day" campaign aims to reinforce territory-wide anti-drug education and publicity among youngsters and to raise public awareness of the problems of youth drug abuse.
