By adopting a "caring organisation" approach, the Force hoped staff cohesion and efficiency would be enhanced, Mr Tang continued. It was also important to provide staff with a better living and resting environment by improving their housing benefits.
As one of the senior members of the Force, Mr Tang has witnessed the development of Junior Police Officers' (JPO) quarters over the past 30 years. Police quarters have changed from the old-fashioned single room units with limited bathroom facilities and kitchen built outdoors at the corridor to the existing two or three-room units. Such developments rightly reflect the Force's efforts to strive for continued improvements. The Force will continue to improve the living condition and environment of its members when resources permit.
Over 11,600 JPOs and their families are living in police quarters in various districts. Upon completion of Tuen Mun Wu Hong Police Quarters, 336 additional quarters units will be provided for JPOs, further improving the choices of JPO quarters in terms of quantity and quality. Decisions on the choice of site, design and construction of Tuen Mun Wu Hong Police Quarters were made after considering the needs of users. It is hoped officers and their families living in the new quarters would enjoy a more comfortable living environment.
Mr Tang also took the opportunity to thank all the parties, government departments, building contractors and Force members concerned for their contributions to the construction project. "It was their concerted efforts that had successfully designed and built these easily accessible and comprehensive quarters which provided a quality living environment for Force members," he noted.
The Handover Ceremony concluded with unveiling of a memorial plaque by Mr Tang and Project Director, Architectural Services Department, Mr Chow Chi-ping, accompanied by Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Chau Kwok-leung, and Chief Superintendent (Planning and Development) Lau Fu-sang and a representative of the building contractor.
After the unveiling, the party and other guests toured the show flats in the new quarters. During the tour, Mr Chau exchanged views on the quarters with representatives from the Junior Police Officers' Association, Police Residents' Associations of JPO Quarters and new occupants of the quarters.
All the 336 units of the quarters were allocated to eligible applicants by the Junior Police Officers Quarters Allocation Committee last December, and the intake exercise began on March 15.
