Mr Tsukiyama Tadahiro (also known as Hiro) will be returning to Japan on March 19 after working as the Police Liaison Officer in Hong Kong for the National Police Agency of Japan (JNPA) for two years.

Hiro started his career at the Osaka Prefectural Police. In April 2008, he was selected to work as a Liaison Officer in Hong Kong.

As a Liaison Officer of JNPA in Hong Kong, Hiro has worked closely with the Force, especially the Liaison Bureau, in assisting INTERPOL Tokyo to facilitate co-operation and multi-level exchanges.

"It is my pleasure to work with officers of the Hong Kong Police, especially officers of the Liaison Bureau," said Hiro. "All the officers I worked with were very helpful. They always gave me the greatest support and I felt like working in the same team with them. I am sure they felt the same!"

Quoting recent examples of good co-operation between the Force and JNPA during his tenure in Hong Kong, Hiro said: "In September 2009, acting on information from the Hong Kong Police and through the professional co-ordination between the Hong Kong Police and JNPA officers, a lady was rescued by the Japanese Police in Chiba, Japan, from a prostitution racket.

"Another good example is the arrest of six persons in Hong Kong for a high profile burglary case in Ginza, Tokyo, in January 2010.

"I will miss everything in Hong Kong - the delicious dim sum and Hong Kong style milk tea, the tram and the Star Ferry - the two very unique means of public transport that I take every day, and of course, my friends in the Hong Kong Police!"

"Working in Hong Kong gives me great satisfaction," Hiro told OffBeat. "I am delighted that I will return to the International Crime Investigation Division of the Osaka Prefectural Police, where I shall have the opportunity to work with the Hong Kong Police."

Hiro's successor, Mr Tanabe Shun from the Chiba Prefectural Police, will take up his new duty in Hong Kong next month. Mr Tanabe is looking forward to working closely with the Force in the next two years.
