Youngsters and Junior Police Call (JPC) members participated in a variety of sports and recreational activities under the "JPC Anti-drug Day" campaign on March 27 to drive home anti-drug messages as the Easter holiday approached. Around 100 JPC members from Sham Shui Po, Yau Tsim, Mong Kok and Kowloon City Districts joined a friendly basketball match against students of the Christian Zheng Sheng College, underscoring their full support for the fight against drugs and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. Participating in an Anti-drug and Fight Crime Orienteering Competition, over 150 JPC members from Tai Po District gained a better understanding of the harmful effects of drug abuse after covering all the checkpoints of the competition. In addition, an anti-drug expedition and adventure training organised by Central District and football tournaments held by Kwun Tong, Sha Tin and Wan Chai Districts helped promote a sporting culture among youngsters and showed how wholesome activities could keep them away from drugs. Meanwhile, about 100 primary and secondary students from Wong Tai Sin District participated in a "Sympathy Card Design Competition". They sent cards that carry messages on healthy campus and the harm of drug abuse to the young inmates of drug abuse treatment centres, in a bid to show their support, care and encouragement to the inmates. Other anti-drug activities of the day included a multi-media exhibition of a giant anti-drug finger painting, visits to the Drug InfoCentre, seminars and distribution of publicity leaflets. Funded by the Beat Drugs Fund, the "JPC Anti-drug Day" campaign aims to reinforce territory-wide anti-drug education and publicity among youngsters and to raise public awareness of the problem of youth drug abuse.
