To further co-operation and interaction with Mainland maritime enforcement agencies, a party of Marine Region officers, led by Regional Commander Chang Mo-see, embarked on a five-day visit to Shanghai and Ningbo on March 9.

Accompanied by Major General Wu Jiansen of the Border Control Department of the Ministry of Public Security and Senior Colonel Zhang Chunru, the Force delegates were briefed on the latest crime trends along the Huangpu River and coastal areas in Shanghai, seaward security for Shanghai Expo 2010 and other matters of mutual concern.

As well as visiting the Yangshan deep water port, one of the designated International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code) port facilities in Shanghai, and the Shanghai Joint Emergency Response Centre, the delegates boarded two marine launches of the Shanghai People's Armed Police Border Defence Corps and discussed with commanders the use of marine equipment and waterborne enforcement tactics.

On March 12, the delegates left for Ningbo to meet the Principal of the Public Security Marine Police Academy, Major General Xu Baozheng. After touring the campus and facilities, the delegates discussed enforcement strategies at sea, implementation of the ISPS Code and challenges for the local maritime enforcement agencies, Border Control Department of the Zhejiang Public Security, Ningbo Municipal Bureau of Communications and the Port Authority of Ningbo.

The visit afforded both sides an opportunity to discuss matters of mutual concern, and underscored Marine Region's on-going efforts to maintain information exchanges with Mainland law enforcement agencies, and to share best practices and seaward enforcement experiences.
