To support the Action Plan in respect of juvenile policies, Hong Kong Island (HKI), Juvenile Protection Section (JPS) held a seminar for supervisees under the Superintendent’s Discretion Scheme (SDS) and their parents, totalling about 60, at Crime Hong Kong Island Headquarters on April 1. Conducted by Chief Inspector Chan Kam-hoi and Senior Inspector Wong Yiu-chuen, both from HKI Regional Crime Prevention Office, as well as members of HKI JPS, the seminar consisted of three parts.

In the first part, the Officer-in-Charge of HKI JPS, Sergeant (SGT) Ng Tsui-yee, introduced the objectives of the SDS and follow-up visits, and encouraged the supervisees to co-operate with JPS officers. SGT Ng’s introduction provided an opportunity for the parents to understand the scheme better, and helped promote interaction among the three parties, namely JPS, supervisees and their parents.

As most of the supervisees have little knowledge of triad societies, two Police Triad Experts, Station Sergeant Lee Hing-yeung and SGT Yan Wai-kin, in the second part of the seminar, talked about the serious consequences of associating with triad members.

In the last part, Social Work Officer Chu Kam-sheung of Project Phoenix - Community Support Service Scheme, talked about youth activities, counselling services, and strengthening of relationships among community partners.

Besides guiding the supervisees, the seminar also attained the objective of helping the parents in preventing their children from relapsing into crime.
