Mentees of the Police Mentorship Programme 2009-10, accompanied by their Police Mentors, visited Border District  (BORDIST) on April 16, gaining an insight into the ways of life and community characteristics of the District, as well as the District’s operational priorities and management.

The visit was organised by Recruitment Division (RECDIV) with the assistance of
BORDIST Commander Leung King-hang and his staff. The Head Mentor, Chief Superintendent Chung Hung-fung and Senior Superintendent Human Resources Chiu Kai-ting also rendered full support for the visit.

The 40 visitors started their visit after CSP Leung made a welcoming speech, which was followed by an introduction by Superintendent Lam King-kong and Senior Inspector (SIP) Chan Chun-kwong of the work of
BORDIST, including anti-illegal immigration, boundary control point management and boundary liaison. This informative briefing gave the Mentees a better idea of how to manage a district with  the biggest mobile population in Hong Kong.

Meeting frontline offices

The Mentors and Mentees then headed for an observation post to see anti-illegal immigration facilities, led by Chief Inspector (CIP) Ho Yiu-man and SIP Chan. They also met with frontline officers to understand the situations of smuggling and illegal immigration, as well as the challenges the officers are facing.

Before conclusion of the visit, CIP Ho reminded the Mentees to clearly see their own personalities and goals for life. For those considering joining the Force, his advice was "getting adequately equipped and working hard to attain your goals".

On behalf of their peers, two Mentee representatives, Ricky Ho and Yoko Wong, thanked
BORDIST and RECDIV for making a good arrangement for them to appreciate the natures of police work and the challenges of a police officer.
