A delegation from Police College, led by Director of Personnel and Training Tang Hau-sing, attended the first "Symposium on Police Studies of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Police" at the Guangdong Police College on April 28 and 29. The inaugural ceremony of the symposium was held on the morning of April 29. Following an exchange of souvenirs among the three participating parties, Mr Zhang Xiaoyun, Party Committee Member of the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department and Party Committee Secretary of the Guangdong Police College, gave an opening speech. Also speaking at the ceremony, Mr Tang said that while the co-operation and relationship among the police forces in Hong Kong, Mainland and Macao were getting closer and more frequent than before, the symposium offered a great opportunity to push exchanges and collaboration in police education, and to explore ways to enhance police education. At the symposium, Force Training Officer Cammie Leung presented a report and findings on "Change Initiatives of Force Psychological Competencies". The report pointed out that an extensive research carried out between 2004 and 2008 by the Force won an award from the American Society for Training and Development last year. Elaborating on implementation of the Change Initiatives, Ms Leung introduced eight areas of psychological competencies namely, Conflict Management, Victim Psychology, Interpersonal Communication Skills, Counselling Skills as a Supervisor or Colleague, Emotional Regulation, Stress Management, Healthy Lifestyle, and Psychological Skills in Suspect Interviewing. Guangdong and Macao officers were very interested in Ms Leung's talk and raised many questions. Mr Cheng Lik of the Academy of the Macao Public Security Forces also spoke on the development of police education in Macao, while Mr Jing Changlin from the Tactical Division of the Guangdong Police College gave an overview of human trafficking on the Mainland.
