The Rotary Club of Kowloon Golden Mile has presented Outstanding Awards to three officers from Kowloon West for their bravery and professionalism while working in their divisions. The officers are Sergeant (SGT) Wong Tat-man, SGT Wong Ching-keung and SGT Ko Chan-fai.

Working in the Report Room of Yau Ma Tei Division on February 16 last year, SGT Wong Tat-man went to the aid of two colleagues who were trying to stop a detainee from escaping from a cell. The detainee put up a fierce struggle but was eventually subdued. However, the struggle aggravated SGT Wong’s longstanding problem with his backbone. Subsequently, he was given a six-month sick leave.

SGT Wong Ching-keung was nominated for the Outstanding Award for arresting a man for murder on February 24 last year. That day, he was on an anti-burglary operation in Hung Hom when he saw a man attack another man with a kitchen knife. SGT Wong immediately subdued the attacker with bare hands.

SGT Ko was commended for apprehending a wanted person in Sham Shui Po when the latter tried to escape by jumping onto the bonnet of a moving getaway vehicle. SGT Ko jumped onto the vehicle and pinned down the person for some distance before falling over the vehicle.

Kowloon West Regional Commander Fan Sik-ming, Yau Tsim District Commander Lau Yip-shing, Kowloon City District Commander Wong Sui-fat, and Sham Shui Po District Acting Commander David Grant were present at the award presentation.
