Chief Inspector (CIP) Ho Chun-chung of Liaison Bureau (LB) headed the INTERPOL Hong Kong, China delegation to the INTERPOL 9th Asian Contact Officers Meeting held on Bandos Island, Republic of Maldives, from May 11 to 14, with Woman Senior Inspector Wong Hau-suen.

It is the first time the meeting has been conducted in a South Asian country, with 36 delegates from 17 member countries in Asia, Middle East and the South Pacific Region attending. The delegates saw the meeting as a good forum for enhancing international collaboration in fighting transnational and organised crimes.

At the meeting, CIP Ho delivered a presentation on the Force's strategy for fostering international police co-operation and on the work of INTERPOL Hong Kong, China. He also took the opportunity to promote the 1st INTERPOL Information Security Conference, which will be co-hosted by the Force and INTERPOL between September 15 and 17.

"Since joining INTERPOL in 1960, the Hong Kong Police have been playing an active role in INTERPOL's operations and businesses. The meeting provided an excellent opportunity for us to meet with our counterparts from Asia, Middle East and the South Pacific to share experiences, exchange good practices and discuss the challenges and problems related to day-to-day police co-operation," said CIP Ho.

During the meeting, the delegates met with the Minister of Home Affairs, Republic of Maldives, Mr Mohamed Shihab; the Commissioner of the Maldives Police Service, Mr Ahmed Faseeh; and INTERPOL Executive Committee Delegate, Mr Tariq Khosa, to discuss matters related to transnational crime and international police collaboration.

The organisers also made arrangements for the delegates to visit the Villimalé Police Division, giving the Force members an opportunity to explore the history, political background, social and cultural matters of Maldives, as well as the developments of the Maldives Police Service since its detachment from the military in 2004.
