Recruitment Division (RECDIV) recently teamed up with the Police Community Relations Offices of Lantau District and Sham Shui Po District in conducting two recruitment talks for over 150 Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) students at Buddhist Fat Ho Memorial College and Delia Memorial School (Broadway).

RECDIV officers introduced the entry requirements, selection process, pre-requisite attributes required of recruits, salary and benefits as well as the career paths and promotion prospects of Police Inspector and Police Constable.

As the majority of the students are not versed in Chinese, they were concerned about the high expectation of the Force on Chinese proficiency and about not being able to meet the expectation. They also revealed that the difficulties of mastering the Chinese language had affected their confidence in joining the Force. RECDIV thus focused their talk on the requirements of the Chinese language and offered tips on how to learn Chinese and prepare for the written examination and interviews.

To make NEC students more confident in joining the Force, Chief Inspector Rohit Bhagat and Police Constable Tommy Khan offered advice on the selection procedure and ways to overcome the language difficulties, and shared their working experiences in various formations.

Upon completion of the career talks, all students and teachers expressed appreciation of the arrangements. They regarded the talks as having brought NEC students and Force members closer together, enhanced understanding of police duties and made them more interested in joining the Force as a life-long career.

In view of the success of the talks and the positive feedback from the schools, RECDIV will continue to partner with PCROs in organising more career talks and recruitment activities for NEC students.

The career talks are well received
