TANGO Company Commander Woman Superintendent (WSP) Yu Yin-ching and 2 i/c Woman Chief Inspector (WCIP) Lee Shui-tai recently met with Platoon No. 3 Commander Woman Senior Inspector (WSIP) Young Ming-sze and three ex-officers of the Company to share "unforgettable events" and exchange the working experiences they garnered during their attachment to the Company. Explaining the objectives of the meeting, WCIP Lee said, "This meeting aims at reinforcing internal communication among officers from the five land Regions. All of them have to serve the Company for two years while performing normal duties in their parent Formations. Whenever there is an operational need, they will be mobilised to undertake specific tasks together. For this reason, the Company Commander and I organise the meeting to enhance liaison and understanding among members in a bid to meet the Force's Strategic Direction 4 - 'Supporting Frontline Units'. "Furthermore, three officers, who are present at the meeting, respectively attended the annual meeting of the International Association of Women Police in the U.S. and the 9th Meeting of China, Hong Kong and Macao Woman Police Officers in Macao last September and November on behalf of TANGO Company. This year, TANGO Company will continue to recommend its officers for overseas exchange programmes. On this occasion, I invite the three officers to share their experiences with TANGO Company and what they had benefited from their overseas duty tours." Sharing experience
The officers were pleased to oblige. WSIP Young recalled, "After joining TANGO Company, I have taken charge of a number of crowd management and control operations. In one of the operations, my platoon members handled a small group of emotional protestors. With restraint and professionalism, they successfully completed their task." In January this year, WSIP Young delivered a talk to a Public Security delegation from the Mainland, covering the organisation, operation and roles of TANGO Company. "Representing TANGO Company at the 9th Meeting of China, Hong Kong and Macao Woman Police Officers, I got a better idea of the legal systems and law enforcement agencies in the Mainland and Macao," she noted. Woman Sergeant (WSGT) Fong Yin-ha from the Police Tactical Unit based in Kowloon East Region represented TANGO Company at the International Association of Women Police annual meeting. She said she got a good idea of the police cultures in other jurisdictions and had good exchanges with female police officers worldwide. Another TANGO representative at the meeting, WSGT Lam Suet-ping, who is now Assistant Duty Officer at Kwun Tong Police Station Report Room, said she had gained exposures to various fields for the benefit of her career development. Woman Senior Police Constable (WSPC) Chan Suk-han of Hung Hom Division completed her third attachment to TANGO Company last year. She said each attachment to TANGO Company left her "precious recollections". On her first attachment, she took part in searching Vietnamese Boat People Centres and repatriating the boat people back to Vietnam. During this attachment, she escorted the boat people back to Hanoi on four trips on a C-130 Hercules transport plane. On her second attachment, she performed crowd control duties during the 6th World Trade Organisation Ministerial Conference held in Hong Kong. The third attachment saw her taking part in security operations during the 2008 Olympic Torch Relay in Hong Kong. She sees TANGO Company as a good channel to get exposures to different police duties and come to know fellow officers from different units. More overseas exposure
Concluding the sharing session, WSP Yu said, "Each company member has to undergo two days of training yearly so that her personal ability and professionalism could be enhanced. Those members with outstanding performances will be recommended for overseas training or exchange programmes. This year, the Force has again allocated funds to TANGO Company for sending two officers to attend the annual meeting of the International Association of Women Police in Minneapolis, U.S., in September. We are inviting applications for this meeting from members, and those interested may approach their platoon commanders for information and application. TANGO Company is a professional team and I have full confidence that my officers would get their job done." WSP Yu stressed that TANGO Company will organise more similar sharing sessions to promote communication and camaraderie among its members. TANGO
