In support of the "World Elder Abuse Awareness Day" on June 15, the TV and Films Section of Police Public Relations Branch broadcast a special feature entitled "Preventing Elder Abuse" on the TV programme "Police Magazine" on June 11. Furthermore, "Police Magazine" presenters teamed up with the Hong Kong Island Regional Crime Prevention Office to run crime prevention seminars at day care centres for the elderly.

At the seminar held at the Ming Yu Elderly Community Centre of the Hong Kong Young Women's Christian Association, "Police Magazine" presenter, Senior Inspector Cheung Ka-po, briefed over 50 senior citizens on the trend of elder abuse and preventive measures.

After the talk, the Officer-in-charge of the Crime Prevention Office of Eastern District, Station Sergeant Lee Hing-yeung, made a light-hearted presentation on the types of deception, modus operandi and preventive measures. The presentation was followed by a discussion between the speakers and the audience.

At the end of the seminar, elderly volunteers of the centre taught the audience and police officers how to make rice dumplings for the forthcoming Dragon Boat Festival, adding a lot of fun to the crime prevention event.
