At the invitation of the Police College, Dr Robert Chung Ting-yiu, Founder and Director of the Public Opinion Programme of the Hong Kong University, and Mr Lau Chun-to, Deputy Executive Chief Editor of Ming Pao, gave a talk, entitled "Mutual Understanding between the Community and the Force", at a seminar organised at Police Headquarters on September 20 as part of a Management Development Programme (MDP).

The guest speakers analysed the challenges of community policing in the light of growing socio-political complexity and elaborated on public perceptions of the Force from academic and media perspectives. The talk was insightful and thought provoking and served to widen the audience's scope of thinking, particularly on how to seek greater engagement of the newly emerging groups within the community.

Attracting over 130 officers and civilian staff, the seminar was well received. The question-and-answer session saw an interactive and open exchange of views after which the audience gave the two guest speakers a big applaud for their presentations.

Voice recording of the seminar is available at the Learning Portal in Knowledge Management on POINT.

The speakers' talks are both insightful and thought provoking
