Kwun Tong District, Sai Kung District Fight Crime Committee and Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Tseung Kwan O Aged Care Complex have been running a "Fight Crime Elderly Ambassadors" Programme to recruit senior citizens to spread crime prevention messages to their peers. The new term of office for the elderly ambassadors commenced recently when Sai Kung District Fight Crime Committee Chairman, Mr Lau Wai-cheung, and Kwun Tong District Commander Chiu Kai-ting officiated at an inaugural ceremony.

In the past, 26 elderly ambassadors recruited in Tseung Kwan O, after receiving some basic training, had visited elderly centres to remind the elderly to beware of telephone deception, "blessing scam" and "medicine scam". They also called on the elderly living alone in public housing estates to deliver the same message.

Feedback shows the elderly ambassadors' efforts have resulted in a big decrease in the telephone and street deceptions reported in Tseung Kwan O. The new ambassadors are expected to carry on this good work.
