new fight crime partners
In line with the Commissioner's Strategic Direction on Engaging the Community, the Regional Crime Prevention Office (RCPO) of Hong Kong Island (HKI) has been actively seeking partnership with business corporations to disseminate crime prevention messages. RCPO HKI's latest efforts have netted the assistance by two major business corporations - PCCW Limited and Café de Coral Fast Food Limited - for new crime prevention initiatives.
To tackle telephone deceptions, RCPO HKI has come up with the idea of alerting the telephone users on Hong Kong Island to the deceptions with a pre-recorded phone message. With the assistance of the PCCW, the pre-recorded message was sent to Hong Kong Island telephone users in May 2009 and June 2010. As a result of this initiative, RCPO is delighted with a significant decrease in the telephone deceptions reported on Hong Kong Island.
Moreover, in a bid to clamp down on pick-pocketing and theft in HKI Region, RCPO HKI has secured the assistance of Café de Coral in printing slogans -"Safeguard Your Belongings" and "Join Hands and Prevent Crime"- on the tray paper liners being used in all its branches.
To express HKI Region's heartfelt thanks, Deputy Regional Commander Cheung Tak-keung recently presented letters of appreciation to representatives of the new fight crime partners.
