WDIST hosts forum for teachers, social workers |
||
At the invitation of Western District (WDIST), 33 discipline masters and social workers from secondary schools in the district attended an Exchange Forum at Western Police Station. The forum was aimed at enhancing communication with the audience and to share experiences of handling students' misconducts. Speaking at the forum, WDIST Deputy District Commander Wise Choy pointed out that WDIST adopts a multi-agency approach to boost communication and liaison with youth workers for handling youth problems. Besides drug problems, Secondary School Liaison Officers also organise seminars for students on Internet crimes related to sex. At the forum, District Intelligence Section officers spoke of the recent trend of youth crimes while District Anti-triad Squad officers gave a briefing on the triads in the district, and the ways the triads recruit members. Moreover, District Special Duties Section officers also briefed the audience on the drugs preferred by young people, the ways they abuse drugs, and the proper ways to handle suspected drugs found on school campuses. The question-and-answer session saw a good exchange of ideas and suggestions regarding a common problem for the police, social workers and teachers. The
