EU HKI officers visit Los Angeles Police |
||
Senior Inspector (SIP) Simon Cheung Chor-wing and Station Sergeant (SSGT) Wong Chor-yuen of Emergency Unit Hong Kong Island (EU HKI) recently spent a four-day attachment to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), sharing good practices with LAPD officers and learning the latter's core skills and management methods. SIP Cheung and SSGT Wong focused their attention on the theory and application of LAPD's "Active Shooter" subject, and studied whether the subject can be applied in Hong Kong. They also focused on public order event operations, dealing with the media, handling of major incidents, firearms and weapons and crime scene management, in addition to police management, human resources and occupational safety. All these subjects enhanced their professional knowledge and provided an update on the social, political and legal environments in LA. To get a feel of frontline policing in LA, SIP Cheung and SSGT Wong also walked the beat with LAPD officers, putting what they had learned into practice, and observing how the LAPD responded to emergency incidents, handled domestic violence cases, and made use of Information Technology for police work. In the views of SIP Cheung and SSGT Wong, their overseas visit had strengthened the ties between the LAPD and the Force, and helped promote exchanges and communication among police forces in the world.
