At two workshops hosted by New Territories South (NTS) Region on October 28 and November 11, NTS Inspectorate officers and non-commissioned officers got a good lesson on how to use the skills of conflict management, interpersonal communication and emotion management to reduce conflicts with members of the public, as well as their fellow officers.

Giving useful tips to the audiences were three guest speakers from Lingnan University - Prof Siu Oi-ling, Head of Department of Sociology and Social Policy; Dr Cheung Yue-lok, Assistant Professor; and Dr Chan Tsun-hung, visiting scholar. The audiences also had opportunities to practise the skills, discuss and share experience. The presentations dawned on the audiences that a positive mood is "the source of power", and that tolerance would help reduce unnecessary interpersonal conflicts.

Thanking Prof Siu and her colleagues for their presentations, an officer said he came to realise that sincerity and goodwill would bring unexpected good results in avoiding conflicts with the public. And the audiences also found the workshops useful for both their jobs and family lives.
