Fifty Emergency Unit (EU) officers from Land Regions showcased their mental and physical prowess as well as teamwork when they took part in a series of contests at Police College to clinch the Wimbush Cup on November 20. They also availed themselves of this opportunity to share work knowledge and experience, and to promote comradeship.

The officers pitted against each other in four challenging contests, namely "Accuracy Shooting", "Rescue Team", "Knockout" and "Serving One Goal".

In "Accuracy Shooting" contest, they went through a fitness test before taking part in a .38 revolver shooting contest, which tested their physical fitness and marksmanship.

In the "Rescue Team" contest, officers, wearing bullet resistant vests and helmets and carrying first aid boxes, "rescued", in the shortest time, an "injured colleague" trapped at the scene of an incident. The aim of this event was to enhance co-operation, judgement and mutual understanding among the participants.

For the "Knockout" contest, they assembled a Heckler and Koch MP5 and Remington shotgun in the shortest time and then used these weapons in a shooting contest. This event was designed to test the handling procedures and tactical use of the firearms.

The "Serving One Goal" contest saw a Chief Inspector or Superintendent lead four Police Constables carrying breaking equipment and wearing "Blackman Suit" to overcome a number of physical and mental hurdles, the aim being to let the participants appreciate the importance of teamwork.

Throughout the contests, officers showcased their high levels of physical fitness, mental agility, field tactics and use of firearms. Finally, officers of EU Hong Kong Island (HKI), the home team, emerged as the winner and received the Wimbush Cup from the Regional Commander, Dr Cheuk Chun-yin.

The competition concluded with Dr Cheuk congratulating the winner and thanking EU officers for supporting the event, as well as officers of EU HKI, in particular, for organising the activity. At the following barbecue dinner, EU Kowloon East was elected to host the Wimbush Cup event next year.

A video clip of the competition is available in EU HKI's webpage in POINT.
