After the visit to Marine Regional Headquarters by mentors and mentees of the Police Mentorship Programme 2010-11 in November last year, another 70 mentors and mentees from 10 local tertiary institutes paid a visit to Operations Hong Kong Island (OPS HKI) on January 14.

In a briefing for the visitors, Hong Kong Island Deputy Regional Commander Cheung Tak-keung outlined his Region's policing characteristics. After the briefing, Acting Senior Superintendent (OPS HKI) Rupert Dover spoke about joining the Force as a lifelong career while Woman Senior Inspector Sylvia Tso, Officer-in-Charge of the Regional Missing Person Unit HKI, shared experience of her job.

Highlights of the programme were visits to Emergency Unit HKI and Regional Command and Control Centre.

Following the tour, the mentors and mentees joined a sharing session with Mr Cheung, Head Mentor, Chief Superintendent Harry Chung, and Deputy Head Mentor, Chief Superintendent Pauline Ng.

Woman Senior Inspector Icarus Ip, Platoon Commander of EU HKI, and HKI Regional Command and Control Centre Inspector Kingsley Heung also joined the session to talk about their recruit training, work and preparations for attending the selection interview for Probationary Inspector. The mentees also learned from the officers more about frontline policing work and the career development path for junior inspectors.

The visit was wrapped up with a note of thanks by mentees Kwong Kai-tung and So Ka-yan for a very useful programme.

The mentees are thankful to Recruitment Division and Hong Kong Island Region for laying on a very interesting and useful visit
