The tradition Winter Precaution is gathering momentum in Districts to make the festive season secure for the public and to ensure that criminal would not stand any chance. Besides street patrol and other crime prevention measures, the Districts are stepping up publicity to remind the public to remain more conscious of crime prevention. Kwun Tong District
Kwun Tong District (KTDIST) officially rolled out its annual Winter Precaution when District Commander Chiu Kai-ting, together with Tseung Kwan O Divisional Commander Chan Wing-mee, Sai Kung District Fight Crime Committee Chairman, Mr Lau Wai-cheung, and other committee members publicised prevention of burglaries and a "One-Flat-One-Alarm Scheme" in village houses in Tseung Kwan O on December 4. The scheme is a fight crime activity jointly organised by KTDIST's Police Community Relations Office and the Sai Kung District Fight Crime Committee. Apart from promotional leaflets, KTDIST also distributed "door and window alarms" and "anti-burglary aluminium bolts for windows", which were specially designed for village houses in rural areas to make villagers more aware of prevention of house burglaries, and to minimise theft of household property. Yuen Long District
Yuen Long District (YLDIST) kicked off its Winter Precaution Campaign on December 11 when Yuen Long District Council Chairman, Mr Leung Che-cheung; Yuen Long Assistant District Officer, Mr Tso Kin-pan; YLDIST Commander Mike Cartwright and members of Yuen Long District Fight Crime Committee officiated at an opening ceremony. During the event, HK Triathlon Representative, Mr Lee Chi-wo, and a member of the Tin Shui Wai Pegasus Football Team, Mr Lee Hong-lim, lent full support for the Winter Precaution Campaign by accepting the appointment as "Yuen Long Fight Crime Stars". At the same time, 40 Junior Police Call (JPC) members were appointed "Fight Crime Ambassadors". Eastern District
Eastern District (EDIST) joined hands with the Eastern District Fight Crime Committee (DFCC) in launching a Year-end Fight Crime Publicity Campaign at the Oi Tung Square, Shaukeiwan, on December 16, with the sponsorship of the Eastern District Council. Officiating at the kick-off ceremony were Deputy Director General, Hong Kong Island Sub-office, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in HKSAR, Mr Chan Chi-bun; Chairperson of Eastern DFCC, Mr Law Sai-kwong; Chairperson of Eastern DFCC Activities Working Group, Mr Chao Shing-kie; Chairperson of Vetting Committee, Eastern District Council, Mr Tsang Heung-kwan; and EDIST Commander Andrew Lovatt. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Lovatt reminded the public to watch out for festival-related crimes as well as pickpocketing and telephone deception. Lantau District
Lantau District, besides launching traditional publicity campaigns, has enlisted the assistance of JPC members in a bid to reach out to local youngsters and mobilise them to disseminate anti-burglary and home security messages to their families. On December 11, Lantau District Commander Ho Yuen-ha, along with 20 JPC members, distributed anti-burglary leaflets in Discovery Bay. Apart from preventing crime, this special drive also sought to encourage local youths to pitch in for crime prevention.
