The largest Lunar New Year Fair in Hong Kong was held at Victoria Park from January 28 to February 3. In the evening of the Lunar New Year Eve, Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung, accompanied by Hong Kong Island Regional Commander Dr Cheuk Chun-yin, went to Victoria Park to observe how officers carried out policing work at the fair.

On January 31, Eastern District Commander Andrew Lovatt officiated at the opening ceremony alongside District Councillors. Apart from regular and auxiliary officers from Eastern District, Police Tactical Unit (PTU), Hong Kong Island and Emergency Unit Hong Kong Island, auxiliary officers from Central District, PTU Kowloon East and Quick Reaction Force New Territories North (QRF NTN) also took part in the policing work at Victoria Park.

For Police Constable (PC) Ho Wing-sheung from North Point Division Task Force Sub-unit, it was the fifth time he performed Lunar New Year Fair duty at Victoria Park, having gained a great experience from preparation work and logistic arrangements for the event. In the past he had undertaken crowd management duties as a member of PTU and other units.

Woman PC Chu Ling-che from North Point Miscellaneous Sub-unit, who was manning a Command Post, said CP was concerned about officers' working environment and refreshment arrangements for their long duty. He also expressed his appreciation of frontline officers' hard work.

Senior Inspector Yiu Hon-sang of QRF NTN said he was delighted to have taken part in the policing work at Victoria Park and done his best to provide the best possible service to the public.

North Point Divisional Commander Cheuk Mee-chan pointed out that the co-operation and support of officers from different units, especially those from outside Eastern District, had contributed to the smooth running of the New Year Fair at Victoria Park.
