Following the success of the "Care at Aged Home Seminar" held in co-operation with Social Welfare Department and Regional Crime Prevention Office Kowloon West (RCPO KW) in May last year, Kowloon City Division (KCDIV) held an "Aged Home Security Seminar" at its station in January.

KCDIV Divisional Commander Grace Leung pointed out that the "Care at Aged Home Seminar" was widely supported by the elderly homes in her Division, and as a result the incident rate in aged homes has been contained. To further strengthen the communication among the police, Social Welfare Department and aged homes, and to establish a communication platform, the "Aged Home Security Seminar" was organised to disseminate crime prevention messages to aged homes and prevent missing of the inmates.

At the seminar, representatives from more than 30 aged homes and elderly centres heard presentations given by KCDIV officers on how to prevent inmates from missing from aged homes, to help police handle death cases and to prevent crime. RCPO KW officers also spoke about the trend of deception and anti-deception measures.

At the same time, Mr Tam Kam-chi from the Social Welfare Department advised the representatives on how to handle inmates' property.

Ms Leung is confident that the seminar would further enhance the co-operation among the police, Social Welfare Department and the aged home, resulting in a smoother flow of information among them. At the same time, the inmates' awareness of crime prevention, service quality of the aged homes, as well as the incident and missing person figures involving aged homes would be improved, she said.

Sharing Ms Leung's views, Social Welfare Department representatives expressed hope that similar seminars would be held in other districts.
