The Police Athletics Club (PAC) held the first event in the Year of the Rabbit, Dowman Road Race, on February 12 at Pak Tam Chung. More than 1 300 participants completed the 12.5-km racecourse within 1.5 hours and will receive their race certificates shortly.

Amongst all race categories, Police Constable Lai Hok-yan grabbed the championship of Men's Open and broke the record with 42 minutes 18 seconds. In team categories, Police Tactical Unit Headquarters (PTU HQ) won the Special/Training Team title. In Ladies Team, Counter-terrorism Unit won the championship. For special trophies, Chief Superintendent (CSP) Richard Morgan was the fastest directorate officer, winning the Fung Siu-yuen Cup.

Assistant Commissioner (Crime) Ng Ka-sing and Senior Clerical Officer Tang Hon-chuen from PTU HQ were awarded the trophies for the oldest disciplined officer and oldest civilian staff respectively. Retired Force member Yeung Hing-wah won the oldest retired officer title at age of 62. More race results are available on PAC Website at www.hkpac.com

This year, a new electronic timing system was used in the race, with participants wearing timing chips underneath their shoes laces. When they ran across the sensor carpets at the starting point, turning point and finishing point, the system captured their timings. The system speeded up the race result calculation and made it more accurate. The timing chip carried a Dowman Road Race logo and participants may keep it as a souvenir.

At the end of the prize presentation ceremony, PAC Chairman, CSP Edwin Lam, thanked Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung for officiating and presenting medals and trophies at the ceremony. CSP Lam also thanked volunteers for their big support, including those from Police Referee Club, Hong Kong Adventure Corps, Auxiliary Medical Service, Police College and PTU.
