Over 170 community leaders in Tai Po and North District recently attended a year-end briefing given by Tai Po District (TPDIST) at the Tai Po Community Hall. At the briefing, District Commander So Kam-tong thanked the local leaders for their staunch support in the past year and re-iterated his determination to maintain law and order with community engagement and crime prevention.

He elaborated: "Tai Po used to have its year-end briefing on police premises. This year, we, to support the Commissioner's Strategic Direction on 'Engaging the Community', adopt a good practice in policing in the western countries - 'Town Hall Meeting', and reach out to the community to report on and account for our performances. Our aim is to engage the community direct on what we achieved in the past year and be more accountable to the community. We are trying to set a good example of co-operation between police and community for frontline officers."

Following Mr So's opening address, Tai Po Divisional Commander Ho Yun-sing and Acting Sheung Shui Assistant Divisional Commander (Operations) Lok Chun-kei reported on the work of their divisions and the policing strategies and action plans for matters of public interest, such as rural burglaries and the problems generated by general merchandise operators in Sheung Shui MTR Station. Tai Po District Operations Officer Law Chi-fu, also reported on the strategies and results of action against vice, gambling and drugs.

Furthermore, Tai Po District Crime Squad Woman Senior Inspector (WSIP) Hung Hiu-wai spoke of the crime situation in 2010 and outlined the action plan for 2011.
